My Grandparents didn't have diabetes but both of their children developed late onset diabetes which included my mother who managed it quite well and lived to almost 80. She had six kids and two of them developed late onset diabetes. It appears to be hit-and-miss.

I would most likely analyse the Chinese meal and the good quality fruit that you had earlier in the evening as specific herbs, spices and the anthocyanins in fruits could also have lowered blood sugar.

For example: Cherries contain vitamins (like C and A), minerals, potassium and manganese

and antioxidants, including anthocyanins and flavonoids, specific carbohydrates and

polyphenols. Black Currents contain gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) which plays a role in

cell function. Mangoes support immune function with high vitamin C and beta-carotene, promoting digestive health and digestive enzymes through antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin. (Of course care must be taken with portion sizes).

I agree with you regarding stress as I know a couple of women who were diabetic whilst

pregnant with their diabetes disappearing after giving birth.

Reagent test strips for urinalysis (URS-10T) - with a 10 test measure - can be a useful tool

as they show the presence and concentration of several components in urine, typically

including leukocytes (white blood cells), nitrite, protein, pH, specific gravity, ketones, bilirubin, and glucose. These results can help screen for and evaluate the diet.

I had my bloods (and urine) done in August in Dunedin and a few weeks ago in Melbourne. Mostly very good results. The only thing coming through is high glucose but it was quite a lot lower in Melbourne than it was in Dunedin. The difference had been that I had been riding my bike a lot more. Exercise is part of it but clearly my reading this morning indicates that stress is almost the sole reason for my high blood sugars although I note your references to the fruit. My reading this morning after waking by the way (but stressed) was double what it was at 2am. Nothing but water inbetween.

Just had an abdominal ultrasound done due to some very bad constipation recently. She said that I was a bit gassy but otherwise in excellent health in regards to liver, kidneys etc. In fact she said that I was in superb condition for my age in regards to fatty deposits, or rather the lack of them, on my liver. So I guess I was just not taking enough fluid a few weeks ago.

It's been a stressful year, I hope to start fixing it now.

Get copies of your blood tests as sometimes they are within range, where the

Dr will say they are good but maybe almost out of range - either way, low or high.

It is helpful to see where they fall. You don't have to discuss with the Dr, just say

you are interested to have a copy for your own records.

A quick question: Are you taking any supplements that contain Vitamin B6?

It has been reported that B6 can cause nerve damage. Even a dose as low

as 6mg can cause damage. B6 is often added to various supplements

I don’t normally take supplements but am taking B12 & magnesium at the moment. I need to do some more investigation of both it would seem. No B6 as far as I can see.

And I have a copy of the NZ blood tests. The Doctor there is German - think they're a bit more liberal. She agrees with me that my blood results do not indicate diabetes. My Australian doctor retired (he was English) and now I have a gay Australian doctor and he's a little more conformist pro-medical establishment (arn't they all...LOL) I will have to ask him for my results. He's trying to get me on Metformin and then later Statins. As my cholesterol levels are fine for most but not if you have Type 2!

Stress does seem to set a lot of things off and then the threshold for them reoccurring seems lower.

I don't know anything about diabetes, just a general comment.

Yes have been under constant stress for a long time. But after last December there is no respite at all. I need to try and fix it. First stage is that I need my family back. 2nd is that it is time to heave the business.

You may find this interesting- stress raises glucose without the need for cortisol
