I am glad that they "remain committed to ensuring learners everywhere have access ... ". Don't you like these parting kicks.

I think that there used to be a term for business that is so in the pocket of government. Visa and MasterCard also qualify for the term. It means something like Public/Private partnerships, and I think it begins with F.

I think MC & Visa are soiling their own patches. Paypal as well. Cash doesn't suffer the same problems, nobody says to someone holding a note "what's your Facebook social credit score".

Russia will move to their MIR cards or try and bring in some insane crypto as Putin and WEF are tightly wound things. I figure if not them somewhere will go to crypto in the next 12 months and it will be such a large failure that we won't have to worry about if for a generation or two. But it will take some victims with it first.

Ask for a refund. Why let them keep your $$? (I don’t know if coursera is free or not?)

Mostly free. Maybe a small fee but I can't remember. I think that I've only done one course on it.

the earth warms the earth cools, humans make a tiny tiny contribution, its just a distraction from the real problem and thats the pollution of the oceans, chemicals, drugs and plastics.

not on the topic but related in that it shows how bad our modelling and understanding of things is. and very interesting https://youtu.be/3qXuAzzVOTQ

An environmental focus (a la the 70s) would indeed be a better way of dealing with this than a 'climate change' focus which has an intent on blaming you and me rather than industry. But CO2 levels are still increasing as are methane levels and the increases date to industrialization so just saying that the planet warms or cools doesn't really address the issue. Whether CO2 is a causal factor in that warming can be argued but it's still increasing.

co2 levels are almost at their lowest levels in 600 million years. this focus on the last 300 or so years is a little disingenuous to the scale of time which is important. if you look at the geological time scale its not even a blip. https://gettr.com/post/pye71gfbb8

and its much lower than it used to be, where did it all go?

the sun and volcanoes are the dominant force for global temperatures, does anyone have an answer for why the Antarctic just had its coldest winter on record?

climate change is yet another way of taxing us and changing behaviour. do you think electric cars would be on the market if it wasnt forced to do so? no cos they cant compete, they are creating industry that helps no one but the wealthy, we cant mine enough materials to make batteries for everyone, mining is one of the dirtiest industries. making electricity to charge all these cars is a filthy business and always will be. all these ideas are a sham

10k years is the important one for us, it's where we 'rose' to civilization. And sea levels and CO2 levels have been pretty consistent in that period. Before that adaptability was easier, we had no major infrastructure.

"𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘨𝘭𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴, 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘯 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘥?"

The sun is yes, volcanoes not. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater is my suggestion.

Agreed. But see above re baby.

Re electric cars I completely agree. But due to the resource hogging of fossil fuel driven cars I'd suggest taking them all off the roads, electric and fossil fuel. Trams, trains and bicycles (electric cycles make this a different calculation than previously) are the more sensible options.

The explosion of Krakatoa may have contributed to volcanic winter-like conditions. The four years following the explosion were unusually cold, and the winter of 1887–1888 included powerful blizzards. Record snowfalls were recorded worldwide.

my point is what we do has no real long term impact on climate there are much bigger forces at work. what if another Krakatoa goes off? what if Yellowstone super volcano decides its time?

the weather will always change and theres nothing we can do about it

The operative word being 'may'. Also in this respect the dust of an eruption such as Krakatoa could be considered similar to the pollution produced by industrial civilization could it not?

If one produces cooling why would the other not? Maybe this is what we need Ray, to and fro to discover what is real.

i knew when i posted my comment we could go down a long rabbit hole :)

the dust is interesting because its a primary function of cloud formation and ultimately rain/snow. there was a theory some years a go i heard about how coal had helped keep global temps down and the rise was due to our reduction of its use.

I just saw a film from Newsweek on that methane a few days ago. Someone flying over noticed a crater and scientists went there, discovering an exploded hole with methane. Later they found several more, and also found some in Alaska. They stated this is a whole lot more damaging than all the pollution etc. for the warming of the climate.

I did an essay/paper on the Arctic about 5 years ago. A sort of mini-thesis for a Post Grad I did at the Otago Geography department. It's potentially a large problem for the world, all that methane stored in the tundra.

I knew about the plants buried in the permafrost, but did not make the connection to the methane. When I was a kid, the scientists blamed cow farts for the changing climate. I think that is methane too LOL. (I remember the comic with a guy who lighted one)

There's still caviar in the local supermarket.

Time to set fire to your Matryoshka dolls. Hmmm, those dolls could symbolise WEF rings within rings. WHO is not the baby?

I had thought of getting a few sets made up along WEF lines. Maybe one with Jacob, Klaus, Putin, Andrews, Trudeau, Ardern & Bono?

Putin would be a double agent, so he can go in several dolls.

You will recall those (poorly made) Russian dolls for tourists, with Trump etc.
