A while back I was working on a design for a house being built on some low land near the ocean. The water table is about 6" below the surface. I thought it best to inquire about sea level rise to the jourisdiction in Washington State, to see if they wanted the house to have any accomodation for what has been predicted to be ever increasing flooding. The building department first laughed at me, and then was annoyed by me, for even asking. The engineer they referred me to also pretty much laughed at me for bringing it up. I literally asked another architect, Are we wrong here? Is the climate change really not an issue? Like myself, the architect was fully believing we should start to accomodate the water rising. The whole thing was a joke, it seems, and we (the designers and architects) have got played. (By the way, the house just has a 12" foundation like every other house on the spit, no one is worried about it and no one will build floatable homes or higher foundations in this area of WA.) At least I understand why the engineer just snickered at me now. Folks know its a joke.
Obviously there's some maliciousness around but I'm not about to throw out the baby with the bath water. Although I'm very skeptical on the part that CO2 plays.
XR? sorry what is that? I really apprec the studies, thank you Rich, when I look at the area, I guess its a tidal wave or nothing, in the eyes of the folks that live there...I would want the whole effing house to float like in Holland....glad my house is a bit higher in Portland, one less thing to worry bout....best
The Dutch farmers are convinced that the Government there is acting on behalf of those who want to build more housing and turn the Netherlands, already considered by some to be a city rather than a country, into a much larger city with immigrants the main beneficiaries of the building largesse (I suspect rentals rather than ownership though).
I'm sure there's a lot of truth in it. But it seems considering how low the land lies in the Netherlands, and how much into human induced climate change that these guys are, to be somewhat contradictory.
I also know of climate change deniers who have invested heavily in Greenland mineral rights that can only be extracted if the ice goes.
Anyway Rutte (Dutch PM) is presenting as arrogantly as Trudeau does right now. Something needs to change, these guys need to be reminded that they are mortal and that seeking out untold billions for plans that don't include the current citizens of those countries is treacherous stuff.
At the heart of every explorer...sits a person who has no real concept of the creatures who already live there. They the realtors and their ilk have filled Portland ORegon with so so many new apartments, most of them block long things. I see how this extended the boom, (2018-2021) and while it put many to to work building them (with mostly spanish speaking crews by observation) (skilled in building and skilled to work), they remain mostly empty. I am really not sure they will ever be filled, at $1800 for a small studio. Many of the new apartments will probably fall into bankruptcy would be my guess, when the bills really come due for the construction. And of course, most of the dwellings have little or no parking. So they are expecting folks to find work to support super expensive places nearby or take (what i know to be)long train commutes. Hmmm. There were literally 25 cranes within eyeshot in 2019-2020.
(harsh alert) when a womans nipples can yield a milk that kills her baby....I do think they need to reconsider...something...where the women are not at fault but rather their doctors. see Jessica Rose Substack this week...
Extinction Rebellion's (NZ) website is back up. I guess that Sea must have sold the 35 hectares.

I did a bit of a study of the Oregon sea coast about 5/6 years ago.
Here's a presentation on it (not mine)

And Peter Ruggerio's (Oregon State Prof) twitter account

And I can't stand the likes of XR obviously.

Extinction Rebellion.
I like naked protests. They grab the attention of people who barely look at themselves in the mirror.
I remember the fury in Colorado when the decision came from the federal court that women's nipples are not dangerous or words to that effect.
You should have seen the statements of the Sunday crowd. I guess that they forgot to read Song of Solomon?

Thanks.
Rich, thank you for the forum in its entirety, truly.
I'm not moralizing. Just having a laugh.
And yes I guess so.
