I struggle to understand why the Aussies continue to elect oafs like Dan Andrews. Maybe it is because Aussies are all forced to vote? I think all commonwealth countries and former commonwealth countries have been infected by the same virus. It is the elective-dictatorship virus.

We all follow the same disastrous election playbook and people still play the only game in town. It is the Party System or better described a the Political Party Majority Parliamentary System. This system forces citizen to elect corrupt political Parties to rule the roost. It is the "Party System" or collusion of parties and is effectively “cartel parties” i.e., manipulation by the Elite and Politicians who make promises in return for money where the problem lies.

We follow the same whipped party system as the UK's Westminster system which was inherited. It refers to the mechanism by which political parties in legislative bodies, such as parliaments or congresses, exert control over their elected members to ensure they vote in line with the party’s official stance. This system is designed to maintain party discipline and cohesion, allowing parties to present a unified front on key issues, even if they don't agree.

Yep agree with that.

The Daily Mail reported today that there is a fresh blow for Dan Andrews, the Victorian

Premier during one of the longest Covid lockdowns. At this time there are still plans to

erect a permanent bronze statue immortalising him. However, there are many Victorians

still angry with the heavy-handed approach he orchestrated and want the statue cancelled.

I’m happy to put him in a bronze encasing.

Hi... It was bad in 2020. We're still seeing the economic, societal, and in some cases spiritual side-effects from the original variants. Lockdowns were a strategy to slow the spread of the virus.

Reasoning Behind Lockdowns:

The logic behind lockdowns was based on contagion rate - R0 (R naught). The R0 value means the number of ppl that are infected by a infectious (shedding) person. Calculated R0 values are highly dependent on multiple factors including population density and weather.

Initial data from China placed R) at 2.2–2.7. Compared to seasonal influenza and H1N1 with R0 of 1.28 (IQR: 1.19–1.37) and 1.5 (IQR: 1.4-1.6), respectively. It appeared SAR-Cov-2 was 85% more infectious than influenza.

With a contagion rate less than double seasonal influenza, it appeared lockdowns and distancing would be more effective than experienced.

What went wrong ?

Distancing and lockdown strategy was developed for influenzas, a virus with significantly less contagion rate, Due to poor data, no one realized the how much more infectious SAR-Cov-2 was compared to seasonal influenza or H1N1.

It was bad from all sides, the ppl dying, crippled economies, lost confidence in leadership, exhausted health care workers dying while still treating patients, societal fears, even panic. Ppl trying to slow progress or heal the sick were seeing their family members die not able to help.

Mid-2020, an article was published citing R0 values. The article claimed an RO of 5.7 Instead of infecting 2-3ppl, SAR-Cov-2 was infecting 5-6ppl or over 400% (4.45x) higher than expected. Ppl who read the article were sweating. It looked like it was correct for dense urban areas.

The Delta variant, the R0 was estimated to be between 5 and 8, indicating a high level of transmissibility. A comparative analysis of all the main variants showed that Omicron is 4.2 times more transmissible than Delta.

Hindsight:

As more reliable data became available, we now know why lockdowns and distancing were not as effective as first thought. New analysis shows SAR-Cov-2 and variants have an R0 is 5.7. Instead of infecting 2-3ppl, SAR-Cov-2 was infecting 5-6ppl or over 400% (4.45x) higher than expected.

Aftermath:

We are still suffering from the trauma of the 2020 pandemic. Self-elected, social media pundits deceived millions to cause unnecessary deaths. We still see them still causing pain and suffering for millions. Although a harsh position, best news is many pundits rightfully did not survive contracting the virus.

Global currencies took a devaluation between 10%-22%. Everything became more expensive while worker's earning dropped and are still plummeting.

Opinion:

Society's leaderships forgot to publicly celebrate surviving and left everyone in a state of suffering an trauma.

Societies under stress are in need of clear direction. Clear direction reduces uncertainty and fears. Ppl just want to work hard to find their way to a certainty and safety (survivability) for their families. Their desperation coupled with political rhetoric has lead to the reemergence of autocracies, fascism and anarchistic tyranny of mob rule (eg cancel culture) and political institution.

I know all about R0 and no longer think that it is relevant because contagion is a joke. It is a shame to see that you have regressed and are now embracing empire whereas before at least you had some doubts.

BTW, the link to the paper describing R0 and Re was for readers unfamiliar with the nomenclature, not you. :)

Good morning,

We were talking about lockdown and how some decisions were made. It is shame no one is talking about how real-time results of lockdown differed from expected results. Ppl that did know were silenced.

These corona viruses looked a ppl as a smorgasbord. It propagated and reproduced like mustelids and rodents. No one anticipated a 10x-50x rate of infection over influenza. Omicron entered ppl like a free kegger.

It does take time to figure all this stuff out. When ppl were dying and the virus was untreatable, govt leaders panicked. They tried to do what they could, just to keep populations from stringing them up, eg Mussolini.

Still we got off easy. It could have been a lot, lot worse.

I'm still state side. Here govt leaders are literally gameshow hosts. "Social distancing" between ppl and leaderships brings sort of immunity from their decisions via economic time delays. Their immediate blows are somewhat softened, but no less deadly.

You, on the other hand, are much closer to the source than other kiwis. Your proximity makes you feel their effects immediately and more intensely.

Embracing the empire ? No. Just living with it. Administrations and leaderships like most things pass with time. Unfortunately, many pass like kidney stones.

cheers -

I remember Lieutenant Ashley Bloomfield, NZ's health tsar at the time (although the military part of his career was never acknowledged) stating that Covid was so dangerous because the R0 was 0.8. Clearly he did not study R0 (or even health most likely) for his "medical" degree.

For the lurkers unfamiliar with R0 such a rate means that there is (less than) zero spread by traditional epidemiology. And for those of us who have stopped believing in infection well there's never any spread.

One Good Eye's avatar

I tried to find the article, I'm pretty sure Bloomfield was freaking out because R0 numbers of highly populated areas were between 5-8. Maybe he misspoke, the report had a typo, or the reporter misunderstood.

There were lots of mistakes going on at the time. No one, at least no one I knew, was sleeping on a regular basis. There was politically biased clinical data from the field. Teams members had died, were calling in sick, on family leave due to deaths and severe illness, isolating and couldn't work. Sometimes standard diligence tasks (eg. proofreading) were overlooked and poorly executed by inexperienced or exhausted team members.

Briefing report mistakes were made due to inadequate staff, stress and fatigue. For example, reports were not ready in time for briefings (including typos), speakers misspoke due to exhaustion and having zero-time to review the copy before hitting the podium.

Globally, WHO said it was avg. 1.4. Unfortunately, the world is not smooth like statistical algorithms would like. Infections occur locally ie. "local maxima".

Unless specializing in infectious diseases (ID), I'm not sure general, internists or trauma docs are the best ppl to determine policy during early stages of pandemics. They're trained as clinicians and effective after treatments and mitigations are developed. Optimally, epidemiology teams working closely with virologists and experienced ID docs should advise on epidemic and pandemic policy during early stages or when pathogens are spreading at alarming rates. Better, you want teams with strong viral bio-warfare backgrounds.

Bloomfield had no idea what he was talking about is what it came down to.

Amaterasu Solar's avatar

Not sure what that was all about really, but... There's no such things as viruses - or contagion! Neither has been honestly proved to this day - and You'd think contagion would be easy peasy to prove.

There are seasonal detoxes, though, with names like "the flu" and "a cold."

This was Richard in 2020.

We have all learned so much.

We are like different people now.

BDBinc's avatar

So true.

In the global media psyop the meme " covid19" that was globally spread fear was the contagion.

Unfortunately the fraudulent use of a PCR test being used to diagnose disease( a dis ease that does not exists as no new set of symptoms was even found) continues and so does the 1861 hypothesis that was never proven.

One Good Eye's avatar

Two morons. Love isn't going to help you. Vaccinate (Exodus 12:13) and pray your offering is worthy enough that Mashḥit overlooks your household (Exodus 12:12).

Richard Seager's avatar

The Penteteuch was written by the Hellenes just before Rome took over. The Romans then expanded it to the New Testament. It is a work of Empire.

Richard Seager's avatar

Oh and then the Persians got in on the act and converted a whole lot of Jews, and others, to Islam.

One Good Eye's avatar

In the ancient world, ppl commonly tried to vaccinate themselves against hardships. We had charms, incantations, offerings (bribes) to deities, food stores, medicinal plants and hiring mercenaries to defend our cities.

Why should the modern world be any different ?

Richard Seager's avatar

In the old world they also had sacrifices which is a better allegory, or allegedly they did (the evidence is mostly lacking, see Sparta, Carthage). The West has also tolerated 5th Columns being put in place over the last 5 years and before. It would seem that those in charge and those that they are in charge of are different people.

One Good Eye's avatar

You're right about that.

Like you, I find it interesting how extortion by a deity became tradition during a time where sacrifice was a form of indebtedness to the offeror. Caesar was a deity who demanded tribute, not sacrifice.
